stashing thru the snow!

Soooo unless you've been hiding under a rock lately (how cozy can that be actually???) you know that mustaches are EVERYWHERE!! They are quite the rage, and while I don't understand what made them oh-so-popular....I lovelovelove them!

So I thought I'd incorporate this awesome trend into my annual Christmas cards.

Side note--I make my Christmas cards every year. I actually look forward to making them every December and love coming up with new and funny ideas. I always include a cute picture of me and Yankee (until I have kids...people are getting a picture of me and my dog. Deal with it.)

So here are my amaze-balls Mustache cards! I freaking LOVE the way the turned out and have gotten so many compliments on them.

And wouldn't you know it? Thanks to my Silouette machine, these bad boys were super easy to make!

the inside of the card!

Hope you and your family have stashed thru the snow this year!! We haven't gotten much of the white stuff (if any) here in Indy......yet.

Merry Christmas!

If you know me but at all, you know that I seriously love New Orleans. It, next to New York, is one of my most favorite cities in the country. (Third next to Beijing.) When I was down there in November for my friend Ashley's wedding (oh wait....have I even blogged about that yet?? oops!!), I saw a painting that I knew my sister had to have for Christmas.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the colors...didn't want to pay the money for something I knew I could do myself...didn't want to shove it in my already small carry-on luggage to bring it back to Indy...etc.

But, thankfully I do have a tiny bit of creativity in my bones and thought I'd make it myself!

And make it I did!!

Yes, I know the colors are a bit loud/bright/don't match/etc. But you know what? It's New Orleans inspired and everything down there is colorful and bright and loud and doesn't match and that's part of the reason I love it down there so much!
Pinot Noirleans!

I actually included this painting in a big New Orleans themed basket for my sister! Two bottles of Pinot Noir wine (my favorite), a fleur de lis wine glass and wine cork, a fleur de lis scarf and cookie cutter and some Cafe Du Monde coffee. She loved it!!

Now...I think I need to make myself one...

dance it out Marian University.

I just got finished my largest order to date! 10 earwarmers for the Marian University girls dance team!!!

Check out how cute my friend Katie is (third from the right)! She was a 500 Festival Princess last year and put in the order for her dance team!

Marian's colors are navy blue and gold. I actually love the color combination and think the earwarmers turned out oh-so-fabulous (ifIdosaysomyself)!

I just love that there is a collegiate dance team out there wearing a handmade creation from The Hicks Girls!! (not to mention, they are gorgeous models for me!)

The orders are FLOODING in as of late (mainly because I've been doing tons of craft shows...makes sense, huh?). I decided that I wanted to make our Hicks Girls packages just as fun as the goodies inside of them.

I mean, everyone loves getting mail...right?
So how much would you love getting one of these in your mailbox, stuffed full of Hicks Girls goodies???
You know I have to keep the fleur-de-lis theme alive and well. And I love how the silver looks against the brown packaging.

Not gonna lie...the ruffles are from old tshirts that I cut up and ruffled. I just think they looks so fun!

the Tatums.

So I was in New Orleans a last weekend for a friend's wedding. (I lovelovelove that city so much, I can't even stand it. But more on that later.) The wedding was simply gorgeous and after the wedding EVERYONE (and I mean EVERYONE) headed down to the French Quarter to watch a little SEC football game...better known as Alabama vs. LSU.

Side note--I love college football. I love that I went to a Big Ten school. I love everything about it. But PS....Big Ten football has NOTHING on SEC football. It's ridick how much people obsess about SEC football. And apparently this game was one of the biggest games. Ever. I had no idea.

Anyway, so we were just chilling on the 2nd floor of My Bar on Bourbon Street (my favorite street) and low and behold. Look who was standing in front of us?

Mr. FREAKING Channing Tatum
Hottie Potottie.
Yum, he is just as lush in person as in is on TV. And he is so freaking nice. Stood there and talked to us for a while. Just so sweet.

And then, there was his wife Jenna (who starred with him in Step Up). Oh my gosh, she is so pretty and so sweet too. I started talking to her about football. And we had a whole conversation about Indiana and Notre Dame (her parents went there). And then she was gushing about my scarf. Love her. She was so sweet.

ahh, just another reason why I love New Orleans.

Let's be honest for a moment, shall we? I (Kelby) simply adores the Twilight movies and books. Seriously. ADORE.

And by adore...I mean, I'm slightly obsessed with them.

So in honor of Breaking Dawn Part One coming out this week, (and thanks in part to Polyvore) I'm posting Twilight-inspired outfits for all my favorite Vamps and Wolves.

P.S. Who isn't obsessed with those Louboutins in Rosalie's outfit?? ?lovelovelovelovelove.

pinterest-spiration! perfect bridal shower present!

.

Pretty sure that Pinterest is the best thing that's ever been invented!
well besides tampons...TMI? Sorry.
Like any good ole crafter out there, I've been getting A TON of ideas from Pinterest. When I saw this card, I knew I had to re-create it somehow.
And then I got the perfect opportunity! Best Friend's brother is getting married this December to one of the most sweetest and most prettiest (yes, that's a word) girls ever! When Chelsea's bridal shower came up, I knew I had the perfect gift idea!!

Love Subway Art!

Ya'll know I love me some subway art. I do. I love it. It's so unique and so fun to make!
I did some online research and found some of the best couples throughout history. And Caleb and Chelsea are definitely two country kids, so I made sure to include Johnny & June and Tim & Faith. And like most Christians, their faith is rooted in the stories from the Old (and New) Testament so I included Ruth & Boaz, Adam & Eve and Sarah & Abraham.
My favorite part of this Love Subway Art are the couples listed directly above and directly below "chelsea and caleb". Both Chelsea and Caleb's parents are still married (a fact that puts them in the minority) and I wanted to highlight their parents love. Above Chelsea's name are her parents and below Caleb's are Momma and Papa Neier's names.
I had to leave the bridal shower early, so I wasn't around to see Chels's face when she opened it...but I think she liked it. And I loved making it!!

I signed the card..."may your love last the ages." And I have no doubt that it will.

first show of the season.

On October 13th, I packed up my little Scion and headed up to Lafayette for...

The Hicks Girls's First Craft Show of the Season!!!

We're mixing up our tactics a little bit this year. Instead of doing all-day craft shows that are open to the public, we are doing more and more in home craft shows with other in home vendors (Lia Sophia, Thirty One Gifts, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, etc.).

I like this strategy a lot better just because I enjoy talking to people and interacting with them...and you don't really get that option at big all-day craft shows.

So our first show of the season was at my college roommate's house up in Brookston. So not only did I get a chance to hock my stuff, I got to spend some quality time with Linz....which I totes love!!

All in all, it was a great night for The Hicks Girls...we continue to grow and grow up in Lafayette, which I love!!

flirty 30 par-tay.

.

Yes. It happened. I did it. I turned the big 3-0 on September 4th. And honestly, I was completely stoked for this birthday! I wasn't dreading turning 30 at all...I am excited for my next 30 years (as good ole Tim McGraw would say).

One of my best friends--Sarah--had her 30th birthday on September 10th, so we decided to have a joint party on the 9th at our favorite bar in Indy...Ike and Jonesy's!! We love Ike's mainly because it is great people watching and they play the best 80's music ever!! (and if there is a Bon Jovi song playing in a 20 mile radius of Sarah and I, you bet your bottom dollar we are out on the dance floor!)

Seriously, it was the best birthday ever! We drank, danced, laughed, danced some more...the entire night away. Wouldn't have changed anything about it!!

pre-party dinner and birthday dessert with Best Friend at California Pizza Kitchen. nom.nom.

best friends forever.

birthday girls! flirty 30! and yes, I made us Pimp glasses to drink from all night!

my girls are all here!!

our delicious cake made by my sweet friend Jovanna (her business is called The Cakehole! love it!) The cake was berry lemonade flavor and was absolutely amazing.

sparklers for candles!!

The Hicks Girls! My sister made my 30th birthday the best birthday ever!!

My little sister/Princess Ali came down from Purdue for the festivities. love this girl!!

The Hocketts came from St. Louis. I seriously have the best friends ever!!

Lauren, me and Josh. Josh who gave me the best birthday gift ever!! (well thanks to his little sister Shannon)!

Linds and Steph--my Chicago girls!!

More on this outfit later...but yes, I made the entire thing. From the top to the shoes. By far the biggest undertaking of my life, but completely worth it. I lovelovelove the way it looked!!

love my birthday besty!!!
I hope my 31st birthday is as fun as my 30th!!
